Girls and young women are invited to attend a Girls’ Initiative called Voices of Experience for girls ages 12-18. Since 2000 ONYA (Ontario/Yates Fund for Women and Girls) has presented the very successful ONYA Voices of Experience program geared specifically for teenage girls in Ontario, Wayne and Yates Counties.
The mission of ONYA is to create economic social change for women. We do this through awarding grants to programs for women and girls that educate, train, and provide access to jobs that make it possible for women to become economically self-sufficient. Grant applications are on our website@ www.onya-ny.org/
This program teaches girls how to become strong and financially independent women. The two-hour program includes a panel discussion followed by an “open mike” session. Panelists are women from a variety of professions. The “open mike” portion of the program is a highlight. The girls can ask any questions on their minds. And they do! The program is followed by a reception where the girls personally meet the panelists.
