Lecture on Women Voted in New York Before Columbus at Bristol Valley Theater
Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner presents this lecture “Women Voted in New York Before Columbus” about women's rights in the indigenous Haudenosaunee Nation and their influence on the early suffragists. Dr. Wagner is the the founding director of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation in Fayetteville, New York. The lecture is a Public Scholars presentation supported by Humanities NY. This lecture is part of BVT’s “Hear Me Roar – Women’s Voices from Suffragist to Dramatist” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement in New York State. This year we are devoting our entire 2017 summer season to plays and musicals by female playwrights, as well as solo performances by BVT favorites as well as new faces. By dedicating an entire season to female artists, we hope to shine light on this issue but also to showcase the extraordinary diversity and creative power of the female dramatic voice.
