“Ieva, Death and the Maiden”
Friday, July 14 at 7:30pm, FLCC
Robert Schumann: Fantasy in C major, Op 17 Franz Liszt: tba
Franz Schubert: String Quartet No. 14 “Death and the Maiden”
Canandaigua LakeMusic Festival’s 2017 season begins with a solo recital by acclaimed pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute, whose playing the Washington Post described as “subtle, complex, almost impossibly detailed and riveting in every way.” Soloist, recording artist, Naumburg Competition winner, and Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship recipient, Jokubaviciute is a consummate artist of the keyboard. Don’t miss out on her debut with the festival, which will include a Romantic Era masterpiece, Robert Schumann’s Fantasy, and a work by Franz Liszt.
The second half of the program will feature members of the chamber music aristocracy, the Avalon Quartet. Top prize winners of the ARD Competition in Munich and the Concert Artists Guild in New York, the Avalon Quartet has been described as “an ensemble that invites you – ears, mind, and spirit – into its music.” Also, making its festival debut, Avalon will perform one of the great string quartets of the repertoire, Franz Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden.” This evening promises to be a memorable musical event.
