Beloved festival Co-Directors Amy Sue Barston (cello) and Kevin Kumar (violin) will join forces with esteemed guests Ieva Jokubaviciute and the Avalon String Quartet to present some of their favorite works of chamber music. Amy and Kevin have individually performed to great acclaim as soloists and chamber musicians all over the world, and their charismatic music-making together has been a fixture at the festival for years.
In the first half, Ieva Jokubaviciute will join them for one of Beethoven’s most lyrically beautiful compositions, the "Piano Trio in E-flat major, Op. 70 No.2," which finds Beethoven in an unusually mellow and intimate mood.
In sharp contrast in the second half, the Avalon String Quartet joins Amy and Kevin (this time on viola) in Tchaikovsky’s fun and bombastic "Souvenir de Florence," written for two violins, two violas, and two cellos. Tchaikovsky was inspired to begin writing this fantastic piece while visiting Florence, Italy.
