Committee service is a great way for Chamber members to increase the return on their membership investment. Whether you’re new to volunteering or are a seasoned board member, committee service can keep you and your business in touch with current and emerging ideas, activities and information, while growing your network and your resume.
A variety of opportunities exist for owners or employees of member businesses, and we encourage you to review the following and see which committee might be right for you. After you’ve read through, if you have questions, or would like to be a guest at a committee meeting, just call the Chamber at 585-394-4400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
ATHENA Steering Committee
This committee puts on the Annual Canandaigua ATHENA Leadership Awards each November, which is a global program through ATHENA International. The Chamber is the administrative arm of this program and in partnership with Professional Women of the Finger Lakes and community members, they recognize women leaders who demonstrate the highest level of professional excellence and exceptional leadership, contributes time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and actively mentors others, particularly women, in realizing their full potential. A portion of the proceeds goes towards scholarships for local women.
Ideal for the outgoing personality, this committee’s role is to engage current and prospective Chamber members, help them feel welcome and assure they get the most out of their membership investment. Ambassadors also assist at special events, mixers and other occasions on which volunteers are needed.
Our annual Ralph Sheridan Golf Classic golf tournament is held in August. The committee convenes in March and meets on a regular schedule to identify and engage prospective sponsors, golfers, event volunteers, and event format. If you’d like to serve on a committee but can’t commit to year-round service, this may be the opportunity for you!
Manufacturing & Industry
This is a new group with discussion to help generate ideas around education, workforce, overcoming hurdles and partnerships within manufacturing & industry.
Public Affairs Committee
This group is the public policy and advocacy arm of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce; ensuring members are aware of and understand critical public policy issues, and taking governmental advocacy action for the business community, as directed and required.
Designed for the hospitality and retail segment, this committee’s role is to maintain a dialog between and among the Chamber and member businesses who cater to visitors and tourists. Members of this committee identify ways to leverage existing events and holidays to grow traffic to member businesses and the community. Familiarization Events, Visit Curation and Story Telling are key ways this group adds value to the member experience.
Mission-driven business is a meaningful influence in our regional economy and our quality of life. This committee’s role is to maintain a dialog between and among the Chamber and member not-for-profit organizations. Members of the committee work together to address common needs and opportunities by leveraging shared social and cultural assets.
We welcome your interest in committee service. Committees generally meet once a month. If you own or work for a Chamber member business, we encourage you to sit in on a meeting of a committee of your choice to see if it’s right for you.
